On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve today (29.8.2012), 47 species of birds were counted or 800 specimen.

Interesting species observed:

1. Montagu’s Harrier (Circus pygargus) – 1 juv specimen
2. Bluethroat (Luscinia svecica) – 3 specimen
3. Red Knot (Calidris canutus) – 2 specimen
4. Spotted Crake (Porzana porzana) – 1 specimen
5. Eurasian Wigeon (Anas penelope) – 1 specimen
6. Icterine Warbler (Hippolais icterina) – 1 specimen
7. Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) – 1 specimen
8. Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) – 6 specimen
9. Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin) – 2 juv specimen
10. Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis) – 4 specimen

Other interesting species observed:

• Black-necked Grebe (Podiceps nigricollis) – 2 specimen
• Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 12 specimen
• Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) – 3 specimen
• Common Sandpiper(Actitis hypoleucos) – 7 specimen
• Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 1 specimen
• Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) – 30 specimen
• Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) – 3 specimen
• Common Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) – 1 specimen
• Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) – 2 specimen
• Rufous Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos) – 4 specimen

The most numerous were Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos , 250 specimen) and Common Teals (Anas crecca, 164 specimen).

3. Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) – 2 (juv) specimen
4. Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) – 1 specimen
5. Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) – 2 specimen
6. Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) – 4 specimen
7. Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin) – 2 (juv) specimen
8. Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis)

• Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) – 1 specimen
• Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides ) – 1 specimen
• Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 15 specimen
• Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) – 5 specimen
• Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) 
• Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 3 specimen
• Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola)
• Greenshank  – (Tringa nebularia)
• Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) – 1 specimen
• Rufous Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos)– 8 specimen

The most numerous were Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos ,279 specimen) and Common Teals (Anas crecca – 98 specimen).

• Kentish Plover (Charadrius alexandrinus)- 1 specimen
• Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) – 5 specimen
• Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) – 15 specimen
• Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 1  specimen
• Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) – 7 specimen
• Green sandpiper (Tringa ochropus) – 4 specimen
• Black Tern  (Chlidonias niger) – 4 specimen

• Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) – 1 specimen

The most numerous were Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos ,211specimen), Black-headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus, 169 specimen) and Little Egret (Egretta garzetta, 50 specimen).

On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve today (3.8.2012), 48 species of birds were counted or 761 specimen.

The most numerous were Black-headed Gulls (Chroicocephalus ridibundus, 224 specimen), Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos ,118 specimen) and Little Egret (Egretta garzetta, 78 specimen).

• Teal (Anas crecca) – 4 specimen
• Garganey (Anas querquedula) – 4 specimen

• Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) – 17 specimen
• Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) – 9 specimen
• Green Sandpipe (Tringa ochropus) – 7 specimen
• Snipe (Gallinago gallinago) – 7 specimen
• Black Tern (juv) (Chlidonias niger) – 4 specimen
• Swift (Apus apus) – 1 specimen
• Zitting Cisticola (Cisticola juncidis) – 1 specimen
• Melodious warbler (Hippolais polyglotta) – 1 specimen
• Moustached Warbler (Acrocephalus melanopogon) – 1 specimen
• Penduline Tit (Remiz pendulinus) – 1 specimen

Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin, 1 specimen) and Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus, 20 specimen) were observed this week as well.
