This week bird news from Škocjanski zatok – 23.8.2012

The most intereresting species observed on regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve:

  1. Red Knot (Calidris canutus) – 1 (juv) specimen
  2. Spotted Crake (Porzana porzana) – 1 specimen
  3. Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea) – 2 (juv) specimen
  4. Ruff (Philomachus pugnax) – 1 specimen
  5. Northern Wheatear (Oenanthe oenanthe) – 2 specimen
  6. Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) – 4 specimen
  7. Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin) – 2 (juv) specimen
  8. Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis) 

Other intereresting species observed:

  • Purple Heron (Ardea purpurea) – 1 specimen
  • Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides ) – 1 specimen
  • Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) – 15 specimen
  • Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) 5 specimen
  • Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) 
  • Common Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 3 specimen
  • Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola)
  • Greenshank  – (Tringa nebularia)
  • Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) – 1 specimen
  • Rufous Nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos)– 8 specimen

The most numerous were Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos ,279 specimen) and Common Teals (Anas crecca – 98 specimen).
