This week bird news from Škocjanski zatok – July 6, 2016

On regular weekly bird monitoring in Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve (on August 6, 2016), 53species of birds were counted or 634 specimen.

The most numerous were Starling (Sturnus vulgaris, several thousand specimens), Coot (Fulica atra, 80 ind.) and Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos, 53 ind.).

Interesting species observed::

  • Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus) – 4 ind.
  • Black-Winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) – 4 ind.
  • Common tern (Sternula albifrons) – 3 ind.
  • Little tern (Sterna hirundo) – 12 ind.
  • Little Ringed Plover (Charadrius dubius) – 2 ind.
  • Little Stint (Calidris minuta) – 1 ind.
  • Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola) – 5 ind.
  • Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) – 7 ind.
  • Redshank (Tringa totanus) – 5 ind.
  • Green Sandpiper (Tringa ochropus) – 1 ind.
  • Greenshank (Tringa nebularia) – 3 ind.
  • Zitting Cisticola (Cisticola juncidis) – 2 ind.
  • Cetti’s Warbler (Cettia cetti) – 8 ind.
  • Great Reed Warbler (Acrocepphalus arundinaceus) – 8 ind.
  • Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus scirpaceus) – 19 ind.
  • Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava) – 19 ind.
