Vagrants

To the group of vagrants we classified 52 species of birds which haven’t been observed in the nature reserve more than five times. In Škocjanski zatok several rarely seen species of birds were encountered, such as Greater Flamingo (Phoenicopterus ruber), Slender-billed Gull (Larus genei), and Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax). Among the reserve’s exceptional guests are also Red-crested Pochard (Netta rufina), Caspian Tern (Sterna caspia) and Glossy Ibis (Plegadis falcinellus), the species that regularly occur in Slovenia in small numbers.
This group also includes the alochtone species, brought to Slovenia by humans. In the spring of 2007, three Black Swans (Cygnus atratus) were staying in the area.
